First applied to fountain pens in the 1920’s, Urushi lacquer is peerless in its richness of colour and is wonderfully warm to the touch. Made exclusively from the sap of the Urushi tree, this traditional lacquer process has been used in East Asia for over 3000 years. While the vintage Ebonite pens made by brands such as Waterman and Onoto have largely faded over time, many Urushi lacquered pens from the same period have a lustre to them just like the day they were crafted.
